56gm gold ornaments stolen from marriage hall

Aurangabad: A bag containing gold ornaments weighing about 56 gram were stolen from a marriage pandal in the Satara area. The ornaments were meant to be given to the bride during the marriage function, said police.

The incident took place in the Nisarg Mitra Housing Society of the Golwadi area at around 3.30 pm. The bridegroom is from Vadodara in Gujarat, said police.

The stolen ornaments belonged to the bridegroom who was supposed to hand it over to the bride during the marriage function that was scheduled for Saturday. However, before he could give it to his bride, the bag containing the ornaments was stolen.

A complaint in this regard was registered late on Saturday.

The complainant Deepak Acharya (53), a senior executive with a Vadodara-based private firm and the father of the bridegroom, Tanmay, said that he, along with his relatives and friends, were in the city for his son’s marriage.

Acharya told police that as the ceremony progressed, he asked his wife to get the bag containing ornaments. However, the bag was empty. The family members searched ever nook and corner for the missing ornaments, but in vain.

When the family failed to locate the ornaments every after a thorough search of the place, they informed the Satara police who immediately swung into action and registered an FIR against unidentified people.

The detection branch sleuths rushed to the spot; however, they failed to gather any evidence.

The stolen ornaments included a necklace weighing 30 gm, earrings and other ornaments weighing 12 gm each, ‘muhurtmani’ weighing about 2 gm and other articles costing Rs 5,000.

Initially, police suspected the involvement of local gangs who are often known for targeting such functions and using minor children for committing thefts.
