PATIALA: In a disturbing incident in Nabha, Patiala district, a young woman, married for approximately two years, was reportedly killed by her husband and in-laws. Her body was on the verge of being secretly cremated late in the evening.
However, the deceased's family and the police intervened to stop the cremation, retrieve the body, and conduct a post-mortem.
The deceased's husband, Nimma Ram (28), and his father, Jagga Ram, were apprehended on charges of murder, evidence tampering, and criminal conspiracy.
Paramjit Kaur (25), had been married to Nimma Ram for around two years. Her family alleged that the accused had been demanding dowry and had blamed Paramjit for not being able to conceive. While the investigation is ongoing, the post-mortem has been conducted, and the results are awaited.
The incident came to light when Paramjit's family informed the police about the forced cremation orchestrated by her in-laws.
The police arrived at the scene, called the fire brigade to extinguish the flames, collected evidence, and sent the remaining unburnt part of the body for post-mortem. It is suspected that the accused may have strangled Paramjit Kaur to death.
