PATIALA: A middle-aged woman of Patran in Patiala district died of injuries she had suffered when her husband threw acid on 20 days back.
Baljit Kaur (42) breathed her last at PGI Chandigarh on Wednesday following which the police arrested the accused.
Boota Singh of Dugal Kalan village will produce before the court. The woman is survived by a son and a daughter.
The police said that the accused threw acid on his wife’s face and body and later he also consumed some poisonous substance following which he remained hospitalized for a few days.
The case was registered for murder attempt against the accused on the complaint of Baljit Kaur.
However, the accused will now face the charges of murder and other relevant sections of the IPC.
“The woman died today morning after battling for life for around 20 days. The accused has been arrested. He was working as a labourer. The accused attacked Baljit Kaur with acid leaving her body and face burnt. She remained hospitalized in PGI Chandigarh. Earlier the case was registered under sections of murderous attempt but now the sections of murder will be added against the accused,” a police officer said.
