Four members of a family, including two children, died in Patiala allegedly due to suffocation from toxic fumes of coal braziers. The police investigation revealed that the family had lit the coal braziers inside their room to ward off the cold wave and dense fog.

PATIALA: Four members of a family including two children died allegedly due to suffocation and inhaling of the toxic fumes of coal braziers in Patiala.
The police said that investigation was going on however the primary inquiry revealed the family had died of suffocation as the coal braizers were found lit inside their room.
The incident according to the police took place on Monday late night when the family members were sleeping inside the room.

The neighbours claimed that the family had lit coal braziers and kept inside the room to ward off the chilling cold.
The police have identified the deceased man as Shahbaj Khan, 29, and his wife Zerina Khan, 25 while their children including a five years old girl and three years old boy were also found dead inside the room of the house in Patiala city. The police have recovered the dead bodies and sent them for postmortem.
“It is difficult to comment over the cause of death until the postmortem is conducted, and reports are out. Four members of the family including two children died. The deceased are migrants and were said to be living here for quite a long time”, said Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, SHO Kotwali Patiala.
DSP Patiala SS Randhawa in the evening confirmed that all four members of family seemed to have died due to suffocation as they had slept while keeping burning coal braizers (angeethi) inside their room during the night.
Notably, the cold wave and dense fog has gripped the state for the past few days.
