AMRITSAR: Describing small savings as major contributors in the development of states and the country, deputy commissioner of the Income Tax department - Tarundeep Kaur, gave a call to parents to take full advantage of high interest being given under Sukanya Samridhi Yojana as it will prove to be a boon by securing bright future of their daughters.

Presiding over a Mega Postal Mela at General Post Office here, Tarundeep said that the investment in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana could build a sufficient fund for education, marriage and other needful expenses for girls.
Briefing the details of various schemes of Department of Posts, namely Postal Life Insurance, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, RD, Kisan Vikas Patra, NSCs, Time Deposit Scheme etc were being provided at attractive interests to account holders. She said that parents should focus on investments in order to secure the future of their girl children so that they could be made empowered by providing them with quality education in future, with only a small investments at present.
Appreciating the 'My Stamp' initiative of Department of Posts, Tarundeep informed the gathering that they could get the postal stamps with pictures of their loved ones. He said that under this scheme, anyone can make stamps to gift their relatives and friends.
The officers from Department of Posts also handed her a set of postal stamps with her photo.
District Transport Officer Lovejit Kalsi also lauded the schemes introduced by the department of posts in the recent past and said people should take full benefit from these schemes. She said that Speed Post was also one of the fastest and cheaper modes of sending documents and that's why, her office was dispatching driving licenses and notices to applicants through Speed Post.
Senior Superintendent of post offices in Amritsar - J.M. Jinger, Superintendent J.S. Bhullar, also spoke on the occasion.
District Passport Officer - Krishan Kumar, Senior Post Master Suraj Parkash and other senior officers and officials of various departments were also present.
