Residents to resume protest over waste management plant
BATHINDA:
The residents on Sunday held a meeting at ITI where the decision was taken to restart the protest soon. The Congress, before 2017 assembly elections, had assured the residents that it would shift the plant from its present location on the Mansa road. During the previous SAD-BJP government, the area residents had held massive protests.
The area residents have also formed a ‘solid waste virodhi action committee’. Committee convener Jeet Singh Joshi on Thursday said that the thousands of residents of a dozen localities are facing lots of problems due to bad odour emanating from the plant. “We are living miserable lives. We have taken up the matter with the Congress functionaries to remind them of the assurance made by party leaders but no heed has been given to our demand. Now we have decided to restart the protests for the relocation of the plant. We will hold a meeting of the residents of all the residential colonies and will decide about the course of action to be adopted”.
Punjab finance minister Manpreet Badal few days ago had said that state government is looking for alternate site and plant would be shifted from its present location.
