HOSHIARPUR: An undertrial took advantage of lax security during his attendance at his father's last rites in Pandori Rukman village in Punjab and managed to escape from police custody.


Munish Kumar, facing trial for abetment to suicide, had his handcuffs removed on the assurance of his brother-in-law, ASI Paramjit Singh.

Despite the assurance, Kumar fled custody after spending time with relatives. Three police officers, including two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), have been booked for negligence in the incident.
