Punjab: Faridkot’s first patient discharged

BATHINDA: The 35-year-old man who was the first covid-19 patient in Faridkot has been cured. He returned home on Saturday with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) vicechancellor Prof Raj Bahadur, Faridkot civil surgeon Dr Rajinder Kumar, doctors from Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, police personnel and sanitation workers applauding him. Led by Prof Raj Bahadur, they presented him with flowers and clapped when he came out of the medical college to return home to Harindra Nagar locality in Faridkot.


The man tested positive on April 3. The family’s happiness was greatly compounded by the birth of his son on April 12. He will be seeing his newborn son for the first time nearly a week after his birth. Talking to reporters, he advised people not to be afraid of the infection but get themselves tested if they suspected it. “One should maintain social distance, follow guidelines and not lose heart,” he said, thanking doctors and sanitation workers.

Prof Raj Bahadur said, “We are happy that the first positive case has been fully cured and two other positive persons from the district are progressing well and will be cured soon.” He announced that tests are being conducted at the medical college.
