Punjab elections: Sonu Sood told to stay home after SAD complaint

BATHINDA: The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday restrained actor-turned-philanthropist Sonu Sood from visiting polling booths in Moga, where his sister Malvika Sood Sachar is contesting on a Congress ticket, following allegations of SAD that he was influencing voters outside some polling booths at Landeke village.

Police also impounded Sonu's vehicle and a surveillance team was also deployed outside his residence.

Sonu is not a registered voter of Moga and was supposed to leave the town after the campaigning ended on February 18 evening.

To use the celebrity as a vote catcher, the Congress has fielded his sister from the seat after she joined the Congress last month.

In the run up to the elections, chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu had reached out to the actor and visited his house in Moga to induct his sister into the party.
