Passenger held with 1 kg gold at Amritsar airport

AMRITSAR: Customs officials confiscated approximately 1 kg of gold, valued at Rs 67.5 lakh, from a passenger at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport.

On Friday, Joginder Singh, joint commissioner of customs, informed that based on specific intelligence, the anti-smuggling unit of the Customs department intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai and following a personal inspection, the officials discovered a concealed yellow packet in the waist strip of the passenger's trousers.

The total weight of the gold amounted to 1068 grams of 24 karats, valued at Rs 67,60,440, and it was seized in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.a

Upon investigation, the passenger confessed to receiving Rs 10,000 for delivering the packet to someone in India. The passenger was apprehended under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, and further inquiries have been initiated.
