AMRITSAR: Punjab Police along with central agencies on Saturday claimed to have busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module and arrested two Kashmiri operatives in Amritsar district. Two improvised explosive devices, two hand grenades, a pistol, two magazines, 24 cartridges, a timer switch, eight detonators and four batteries were seized from the duo. The operation in Amritsar's Kathu Nangal area was conducted by the Punjab Police's special operation cell, along with a central agency, based on intelligence inputs that LeT will use Punjab's border for smuggling arms and explosives into India.
The arrested were identified as Uzair-ul-Haq of Rahpora Khudwani and Raj Andleeb of Kherwan, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said, adding that the module was handled by one Firdaus Bhat, also from Kashmir. "Probe suggest that Bhat had recruited the duo to attack strategic places and prominent personalities of Kashmir and Punjab. Bhat contacted his men via social media and guided them to Amritsar on Thursday to collect arms and take those to Kashmir," the DGP added.
SSOC additional inspector general Sukhminder Singh Mann said: "Haq, who is related to Bhat, was earlier arrested in two cases of pelting the security forces with stones in Kulgam district of J&K, while Andleeb has no criminal record."
