) on Saturday wooed former Congressmen Sukhjinder Raj Singh

, a known loyalist of former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, in its fold and fielded him from
Majitha
assembly constituency.
Lalli had on Thursday resigned as Chairman
Punjab State Grains Procurement Corporation Limited ( Pungrain) . Rumours were abound that he could join Amarinder-led Punjab Lok
Congress (PLC), but he took everyone by surprise after he chose to join AAP over PLC. “There was no hope of delivery of justice in cases of sacrilege in Punjab, eradication of drugs from the state under the rule of present Congress regime so I distance myself from the Congress and join a secular political party,” said

Majithia after joining AAP on Saturday.
Notably, after his resignation from Pungrain, Lalli Majithia held a meeting with Kejriwal following which he joined the AAP along with other persons in presence of AAP’s national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was here on Saturday. Lalli was appointed as chairman, Pungrain during the tenure of Captain Amarinder Singh as the chief minister of Punjab.
Along with Lalli, Dr Baljit Kaur, daughter of former MP Professor
Sadhu Singh
and BSP state general secretary Gurbaksh Singh joined the AAP and were formally inducted into the party by AAP Punjab president Bhagwant Mann and party’s co-in-charge of Punjab affairs Raghav Chadha and Punjab Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema.
Chadha alleged that due to collusion between SAD(B) and Congress in Majitha assembly constituency, the Akalais had been winning the seat continuously for many elections. “AAP will break this alliance by fielding Lalli Majithia and we are sure that Lalli Majithia will fight Akali-Congress with full force and will make AAP victorious from this seat,” he said.
Expatiating about his feelings while in Congress, Lalli Majithia said he felt suffocated in Congress which was worsened due to internal bickering in the party . When asked about his electoral prospects from the Majitha assembly constituency, Lalli Majithia concluded by saying “This is 2022 assembly elections and no 2017.”
Lalli Majithia had lost against SAD (B) candidate Bikram Singh Majithia during 2007, 2012 and 2017 assembly elections from Majitha assembly constituency. In 2012, he had contested as an independent candidate while in 2007 and 2017 he had contested on a Congress ticket.
However, reacting to the joining of AAP by Lalli Majithia, Amritsar (Rural) District Congress Committee president Bhagwantpal Singh Sachhar said “This is a betrayal to Congress party that appointed Lalli as Chairman, Pungrain despite twice losing elections with big margin.”
