The announcement was made during a memorial ceremony held to pay respect and homage to Dr Manmohan Singh at Gurdwara Sahib in Belgium on Sunday, informed IOC Coordinator, Europe, Rajwinder Singh on Monday.

Rajwinder informed that the gathering was not only composed of IOC members but also included people from across Europe who held the former Prime Minister in high regard as a beacon of India's economic development.

He further informed that the IOC members were in unanimous agreement to begin a scholarship for exceptional students from India, with the aim of nurturing their educational potential and empowering them to become the next generation of educationists, reformers, economists, and leaders.

“For this purpose, the IOC leaders decided to convene a meeting in the near future to outline the modalities, set up a separate account, and finalise other necessary details," he said.

IOC leader from Belgium, Jeewan Padda, said that the late Dr Manmohan Singh’s career, including his tenure as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, where his visionary leadership left an indelible mark on India’s financial sector, was nothing short of transformative.

His contributions went far beyond governance—his policies were instrumental in shaping modern India’s economic framework. As Prime Minister, his leadership steered the country toward greater economic stability and growth.

“The proposed scholarship will undoubtedly serve as a powerful tool for nurturing the next generation of leaders, economists, and policymakers—who could one day continue the work and vision of this extraordinary man. And it is a befitting way to keep his memory alive, ensuring that his contributions remain relevant and inspire future progress in the years to come,” said Padda.
