According to reports, Sukhjinder Singh, Jobanpreet Singh, Lovedeep Singh, Simranjit Singh, Gurinder Singh - residents of Raju Bela and Balwanda villages near Kahnuwan in

Gurdaspur

district - had gone to swim in river Beas.

After Sukhjinder Singh, Jobanpreet Singh and Lovedeep Singh reportedly drowned in the river, their two friends tried to find them, but to no avail, and then they informed the police.

police station SHO Kulwinder Singh Virk said that five friends of Raju Bela and Balwanda villages had gone to take bath in Beas river near Kishanpura village around 4pm.

He said the three youth drowned in the river adding that as soon as they received the information they began a rescue operation with the help of local divers. Their friends tried to help them but they couldn't save them. There was a possibility that they could have slipped into the river and were swept away by the flow of water.

“We have recovered the body of Loveprees Singh, a resident of Balwanda village who has been sent to hospital,” he said, adding that the rescue operation was going on.
