The ex-MLA was arrested when he was getting ready to go to a gurdwara to pay obeisance.

The former legislator was arrested in connection with a case registered against him last week for disrupting officials from discharging official duty by holding a sit-in at the office of zira block development and panchayat officer while accusing rampant corruption in the office.

The case was registered on the complaint of BDPO.

Upon his arrest, Zira was presented in the court which sent him to judicial custody. While he was being shifted to Ropar jail, the supporters of Zira assembled at Ferozepur-Ludhiana national highway near Talwandi Bhai town and stopped the police convoy which was taking the ex MLA to jail.

Before he was taken to custody, Zira said that he has been arrested for raising voice against corrupt deeds of the officers. He will not keet quiet and will raise the matter again once he comes out of jail.

Opposing the arrest, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring termed it a political vendetta and said that state Congress will not tolerate it and will hold protests.

Leader of opposition in state assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, termed it as another act of high-handedness.
