Farmer bodies burn effigies of G 20 summit in Punjab's Amritsar
AMRITSAR: Farmers under the banner of Kissan Mazdur Sangrash Committee (KMSC) burnt the effigies of the G 20 summit scheduled to be held under the Indian presidency from September 9 to 10 in Delhi
Farmers alleged that the G20 nations were perceived as advancing the interests of corporate entities and implementing policies that were detrimental to the well-being of the economically disadvantaged and middle-income people.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher informed that they had burnt effigies of G20 summit at 40 different places in the Majha region of Punjab alone.
He alleged that the affluent and developed nations were exploiting developing countries like India by leveraging their natural resources, including minerals, water, forests, land, and cost-effective labor, all under the guise of promoting economic development.
"Their true motives, which involve gaining control over natural resources and exploiting individuals, particularly farmers, and laborers, have ignited substantial opposition from farmers and labourer groups, who are vehemently opposing such actions” , he alleged.
Another farmer leader Gurbachan Singh Chabba alleged that the Modi government was not only persistently attempting to divide the country by employing divisive tactics but on the other hand, it was also advancing corporate-friendly policies, surpassing even the previous governments in this regard.
He also alleged that common people’s lives were disrupted by the government on the name of security of the G 20 summit.
"The government has no hesitation in harassing the ordinary people living in Delhi as several roads have been blocked and the people who raise voices in their favour are being branded as trouble makers”, he alleged.
District president KMSC Ranjit Singh Kaler Bala informed that as many as 16 farmers organziogns would begin the first phase of their ‘Rail Roko’ agitation from September 28. Eom
