AMRITSAR: Family members of Vir Abdul Hamid, along with the members of The Legend Vir Abdul Hamid Trust arrived in Amritsar from Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh to offer ‘chaddar’ (a ceremonial cloth) at the final resting place of the national hero at village Asal Uttar in Tarn Taran district.This is for the first time that the family members of Company Quartermaster Havaldar (CQMH) Abdul Hamid, Param Veer Chakra,(Posthumously) arrived at his resting place.Led by his grandson Jamil Ahamd, all of them went to Jallianwala Bagh on Friday to pay homage to the martyrs, offer namaz at the local Jama Masjid. They also paid obeisance at Golden Temple and went to Attari International border to witness the daily flag lowering ceremony.Jamil said that on Saturday, they would be going to Asal Uttar and offer a ‘chadar’ at the martyr's resting place . Army will also hold a function in memory of Abdul Hamid.During the 1965 Indo-Pak conflict, Abdul Hameed had pulverized three Pakistan Army’s invincible Paton tanks to give a befitting reply to the neighbor's aggression and attained martyrdom while engaging the fourth Paton tank.
