Drone drops arms, RDX near Punjab border; BSF, police foil smuggling bid

AMRITSAR: The Border Security Force (BSF) and Amritsar (Rural) Police foiled a significant cross-border smuggling attempt involving a drone, recovering a cache of arms and ammunition near the border.

Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, informed on Sunday that a joint operation was launched on May 10 following inputs from alert local residents. The operation took place near Chak Bala village, under the jurisdiction of Ajnala police station.

He stated that the BSF and police team recovered a consignment from agricultural fields, which included two .30 calibre pistols with four magazines, 30 live cartridges, two hand grenades, two level detonators, a remote control device with a charger, a command mechanism, eight batteries, a black box, and 972 grams of RDX.

A case has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act, and Aircraft Act. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the network behind the smuggling attempt and identify the individuals involved, said Yadav.
