GURDASPUR: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday found 3kg heroin near the
Pakistan border in Punjab on Saturday, just a day after the force's personnel had found a high-end dron, an AK-47 and its ammunitioen on the same border.
The heroin contraband had been airdropped by a drone near Dhanoe Kalan village in Amritsar district.
A BSF official informed that troops heard the sound of a drone entering Indian territory and opened fire in its direction, following which it dropped the payload and flew back to Pakistan.
In the neighbouring Gurdaspur district, the BSF had on Friday recovered the drone, and arms and ammunition. At that time, BSF had been able to shoot down the drone, which was carring the AK-47, two magazines of the assault rifle, and 40 rounds.
BSF IG (Punjab frontier) Asif Jalal had said earlier that the drone had been shot down near Nabinagar.
The BSF had spotted the Gurdaspur drone on the basis of information provided by a local farmer,
Sukhjeet Singh.
A source in border force said the drone in Gurdaspur had been able to enter about 7.2km into Indian territory. "It is yet to be established how deep the drone had flown inside India," said the source.
