Contaminated water: One dies, five women land in hospital

FEROZEPUR: Condition of over six women, working in the wheat field, deteriorated as they fell unconscious after drinking

water

from a pot in Bahadurkhera village in Abohar here on Monday.

The women were taken to the local civil hospital. One of the woman, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, who was referred to medical college and hospital in Faridkot, reportedly died there in the late evening.

Police said about six women were working in a field in Bahadurkhera village in Abohar sub-division of

Fazilka district

. In order to quench their thirst, they drank water from a pot following which their condition started deteriorating and they fell unconscious. On getting the information, the owner of the field called emergency ambulance service. The women have been identified as Kulwinder, Parvinder, Veerpal Kaur, Manprit Bai, Pammi and Palwinder Kaur. As condition of four women deteriorated further, they were referred to the government medical college and hospital in Faridkot, where Kulwinder died in the evening.

When contacted, Sadar Abohar police station SHO Abhinav Chauhan said, "We have picket up the pot from which these women consumed water and it will be sent for forensic analysis."
