BJP stages protest against alleged failure of civic body to maintain cleanliness in Amritsar
AMRITSAR: BJP activists gathered outside the office of the Commissioner of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation (AMC) to protest the alleged failures of the civic authorities in maintaining the cleanliness of the city, along with other concerns affecting the residents of Amritsar.
Speaking on the occasion Amritsar district BJP president Harvinder Singh Sandhu said due to viral fevers like dengue, chikungunya, and other diseases, every second family in Amritsar was suffering.
Claiming that both the government and private hospitals were overflowing with patients, he alleged that AMC failed to timely spray mosquito and fly killers in the city resulting in the outbreak of diseases .
Sandhu pointed out that the residential colonies in areas such as Chheharta, Putlighar, Islamabad, Dhapai, and B-Block had been severely affected and the diseases continues to spread throughout the entire city.
"If AMC had taken appropriate measures to control it in time, the city wouldn't be in such a terrifying state. In this matter, the AMC is completely at fault", alleged Sandhu.
The BJP leader also claimed that currently, most of the garbage collection services had been suspended in the city. “There is a lack of proper management for cleanliness, and the sewage system has also deteriorated,” said he adding that people of several residential colonies had protested regarding these issues from time to time, but no solution had been provided.
Politically speaking, Sandhu alleged that since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came into power, the funds allocated by the central government through the Smart City initiative for Amritsar were being allegedly misused.
"Despite being designated a Smart City, the roads in Amritsar are in a deplorable condition, with more potholes than actual roads in several areas. A prime example of this is the main Ring Road of the city, starting from the bus stand and passing through Ram Bagh, Hall Gate, Hathi Gate, Lohgarh, Lahori Gate, etc., which is in an extremely pitiable state” said Sandhu.
Among others who were present on the occasion included former Health Minister Dr. Baldev Raj Chawla, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, former Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, former District President Anand Sharma, Reena Jetly, Sukhmandir Singh Pintu, Dr. Ram Chawla, Harjinder Singh Thekedar, etc.
The BJP leaders also submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner, AMC, Rahul in support of their demands.

Iam not supporting any political party..Coming from Delhi to Amritsar for work. It's very clear the municipal is neglecting their civic duties. Garbage is collected at most 3 times a week if you are lucky. Sewage system is utterly in choked and takes 10mins of slighly heavy shower to flood the streets and road with rain water mixed with sewage. Roads are ridden with potholes. The city which is host to the Golden temple is in shambles. BRT is non functional. Such a shame the people who beg for votes have left the citizenship as beggars.Read allPost comment
