PATIALA: Two persons died while one other sustained injuries after an LPG cylinder reportedly exploded at a sweets shop in Bharatgarh area in Ropar district early on Thursday.

The incident took place in the wee hours at Kamal Sweets Shop.

Police said that a security guard in the area raised an alarm and informed the shop owner about the occurrence of suspected short circuit following which the owner’s son Jatin Gautam reached the shop and opened its shutter.

The police said that the cylinder immediately exploded leaving Jatin Gautam, 30, dead on the spot. The police said that an employee working as a helper identified as Sajjan Singh was injured in the blast. He was taken to hospital but later succumbed to injuries.

“The incident took place at around 4am on Thursday. One person died on the spot while the other succumbed to his injuries at hospital. The fire tenders were called, and the flames were doused. A security guard identified as Roshan Lal was also taken to hospital after suffering minor injuries but is now out of danger,” a police officer said.
