SIPAHIJALA (Tripura): In a shocking incident, a housewife from Barakhola village, under Jatrapur Police Station, Sunamura sub-division, reportedly abandoned her husband and two young daughters due to her excessive involvement with social media.
The local community was left stunned by the event, which also raised broader concerns about the increasing impact of social media addiction.

Manik Das, a rubber garden owner, had been married to Pinki Debnath from Induria village for nine years. The couple appeared to have a happy life with their two daughters, aged 4 and 6.

However, Manik revealed that Pinki's recent obsession with creating social media reels and videos had caused tension in their marriage. With a rapidly growing online presence and over 14,000 followers, Pinki's social media activities began to consume a significant portion of her time and attention.

"She was always busy making reels instead of looking after the children and household work. I had to intervene and stop it as it was becoming an unhealthy obsession," Manik told ANI. The situation escalated on May 18 when, after dropping their daughters off at school, Pinki sent them back home after school ended but did not return herself.

Manik, unaware of his wife's location, filed a missing person complaint at the Jatrapur police station. "I provided her with everything she ever wanted. I never suspected her of having an extra-marital affair. I blame her social media addiction for this. I just want her to come back for the sake of our children," he added.

Local residents have expressed their shock over the incident, with a neighbour telling ANI, "It's baffling how social media can disrupt family life to this extent."

The local community is worried about the wider implications of such obsessions, particularly in rural areas where the influence of social media is said to be increasing.

Subrata Debnath, OC, Jatrapur police station, told ANI, "As the police continue the search for Pinki, the incident has sparked a wider discussion on the need for awareness and regulation of social media usage. However, we hope better sense prevails and Pinki returns home for the sake of her young daughters."
