Villagers in Kakinada destroy home of murder accused amid outrage over triple homicide
KAKINADA: In a fit of anger, villagers from Salapaka village in Kajuluru mandal, Kakinada district, destroyed the house of the accused in the murder of three family members. They managed to damage the house despite a police picket being set up there. The police struggled to control the crowd as the entire village was enraged over the murders.
A police official told TOI that the villagers' anger was intense, and they might have responded violently if obstructed. The situation is now under control, and peace returned after the house was damaged. No one was in the house when the attack occurred.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of three individuals in Salapaka village on October 31. Potlakayala Nageswara Rao, Potlakayala Baby, Potlakayala Subrahmanyam, Potlakayala Dora Babu, and Potlakayala Vinod were taken into custody.
Following disputes between the families of Nageswara Rao and Chinnayya, the five accused attacked Bathula Chinnayya, his son Bathula Ramesh, and his younger brother Bathula Raju with rods and sticks, resulting in their deaths. Another brother of Chinnayya, also named Bathula Raju, was injured in the attack.
The police arrested the suspects on Tuesday evening and recovered the weapons used in the crime. A case has been filed under sections 189(1), 191(3), 238(B), and 10293, read with 190 BNS-2023. The accused were presented in court on Wednesday.
