TIRUPATI: A suspended police constable was arrested after his nexus with red sanders smugglers was established during an enquiry into Tirupati on Wednesday.
According to Tirupati SP L Subba Rayudu, Chalamakunta Gurrappa, who was working as a police constable at the Yerravaripalem police station, was suspended on corruption charges about two months ago.
During the course of an ongoing investigation into red sanders smuggling registered by the red sanders anti-smuggling task force, the nexus between constable Gurrappa and red sanders smugglers was established, leading to his arrest on Wednesday.
Tirupati SP warned the entire police department to stay away from acts of corruption or be prepared face departmental as well as criminal proceedings.
