Seven people dead in road accident in Andhra Pradesh

RAJAHMUNDRY: In a tragic accident that took place in East Godavari district on Tuesday night, seven people were killed when the van they were traveling in overturned.

According to Kovvur DSP G Deva Kumar, the DCM van, loaded with cashew nuts, was traveling from Borram Palem in T Narasapuram to Tadimalla village in Nidadavolu mandal, with 10 people sitting on the cashew nut load when the accident occurred.

When the van reached Chilaka Vari Pakala, a hamlet of Chinnaya Gudem, the driver lost control due to a damaged road. Eight people were crushed under the cashew nut load; seven were killed on the spot, and one was rescued. Six of the deceased belonged to Tadimalla village, while the other was a native of Kata Koteswaram. With the help of locals, the police retrieved the bodies trapped under the cashew nut bags, which were then shifted to Kovvur government hospital for postmortem.

The deceased have been identified as Thammireddy Satyannarayana (45), Devabathula Burayya (40), B. Prasad (35), Penugurhti Chinna (35), Kathava Krishna (40), Kathava Sathipandu (40), and Thadi Krishna (45).

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the tragic accident. He said he was moved by the deaths of seven people and inquired about the treatment of the injured. He directed officials to provide the best possible treatment and assured all possible assistance from the government.
