expired in May. Farooq was sworn in as MLC in Governor’s quota in the last week of July. He hails from Nandyal and was the former deputy speaker of the assembly in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. During Nandyal bye elections, AP CM had promised Muslims to give AP Legislative Council Chairman’s post to someone from their community. Accordingly,

fulfilled his promise.

Farooq filed his nomination for council chairman on Tuesday. Ministers Yanamala Rama Krishnudu, Nara Lokesh and 10 other TDP MLC's signed the nomination papers. Till evening it was the only nomination for council chairman post, so obviously it was clear that Farooq will be the council chairman.

Today Farooq was sworn in as AP Legislative Council Chairman and immediately took the charge.

Farooq belongs to Nandyal in

Kurnool district

. He was the muncipal chairman of Nandyal in 1983. Later he worked as a minister in 1985-88 and 1999-2004.

TDP senior leader Payyavula keshav has been appointed as Council chief whip and Dokka Manikya Vara Prasada Rao, Buddha Venkanna, Rama Subba Reddy and Sharif were appointed as whips in AP Legislative Council.
