Lucky escape for 30 students as bus plunges into pond

SRIKAKULAM: About 30 students experienced a miraculous escape when their school bus veered off the road and accidentally plunged into a pond between the Mandasa and Umagiri areas in the Srikakulam Mandal, turning turtle. Fortunately, the students inside the vehicle escaped with minor injuries. The timely act of locals saved all the children from the submerged bus. By that time, a few children swallowed some water, but there were no casualties, only minor injuries to the children.

According to locals, a private school Vivekananda school bus with 30 students was traveling to Umagiri, Bairisarangipuram, and Belipati via Budarusing from Mandasa after classes concluded in the evening. The bus plunged into a pond on the roadside when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Children cried for help as the bus was sinking after turning turtle in the water. In a daring act, locals jumped into the water and saved all the children. They were shifted to the govt hospital in Mandasa using the 108 ambulance service. The doctors at the hospital announced that the students sustained minor injuries and there was no threat to their lives.
