Guntur Red Cross tops in blood donation camps in the country: Red Cross chairman Sridhar Reddy

Addressing the gathering, Dr Sridhar Reddy said that the Guntur branch had organized the highest number of blood donation camps in the country during the last year and it is continuing its tremendous work during the current year.
Guntur chapter vice-president and mission director P Ramachandra Raju said that they could organize so many camps thanks to the dedicated volunteers and enthusiastic youngsters in the colleges in the district. He said that the existing blood bank of the Red Cross is not operating in its full capacity as there is a need to increase its Blood Donor Base.
Since many blood donors are not willing to spend time to come to the centre and donate blood, mobile blood collection van will help them pool required blood, said Raju. He explained that the blood bank is providing free of cost blood to various charitable hospitals and organisations. “At present the population of Guntur is approx six million from which three million will be from the age group 18 to 50, making it a large group of donors available for blood donation,” said Raju.
Rotary international chairman Vadlamani Ravi said that the mobile blood collection van would help the Guntur team to organize more camps in the coming days. He said that the van was equipped with all required tools to collect blood from the donors. Rotary district governor NV Hanumantha Reddy, K Prabhakar, Rajasekhar Reddy, Ranganath Bhat, Ravindra Bhat were also present.
