Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu quits ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh

AMARAVATI: Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu on Saturday quit the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh, less than two weeks after joining the party in the presence of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Rayudu stated his intention to take a hiatus from politics as the reason for his departure.

Amidst the impending state Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, Rayudu made a public announcement via the social media platform X, declaring, "I have decided to quit the YSRCP Party and step away from politics temporarily." However, he assured that he would disclose his future plans at a later date.



Rayudu had formally joined the YSRCP on December 28, 2023, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy and Rajampeta Lok Sabha member P Mithun Reddy. Renowned for his cricketing career representing the Indian national team and playing in prestigious cricket leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL) for franchises such as Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, Rayudu has also contributed significantly to various state teams in domestic cricket. In recent months, he had actively engaged with the public through various outreach programs.
