AMARAVATI: The state government has shifted cabinet minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy’s body to Nellore on Tuesday.
TTD chairman YV Subbareddy, government chief whip Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, reached Begumpet airport early in the morning and made the arrangements.
Family members of late Goutham Reddy, including his father and former MP Rajamohan Reddy, mother Mani Manjari, wife Sri Keerthi and uncles were among those who took the special chopper.
The army deployed the special chopper for shifting of the body following a request from the chief secretary Dr Sameer Sharma.
The body was kept at Mekapati family’s guest house to allow the local party cadres and leaders to pay their tributes to the departed leader.
Irrigation minister Dr Anil Kumar Yadav rushed back to Nellore late on Monday night to oversee the arrangements for the funeral in Udagagiri.
Goutham Reddy’s son Arjun Reddy who was in the United States is expected to reach Nellore by Tuesday evening.
The mortal remains of Goutham Reddy would be shifted to Udayagiri on Wednesday.
The family of the late minister had shifted the venue of the final rites from Brahmanapalle to Udayagiri in Nellore district.
The final rites would be held at 11am with full state honours in the farmland adjacent to the Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy Institute of Technology and Science (MeRITS), the college-owned by Mekapati family in Udayagiri.
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and other cabinet colleagues would attend the funeral in Udayagiri on Wednesday.
