Andhra Pradesh's Tirumala town radiates with light, floral decor for grand 'Ratha Saptami' celebrations

NEW DELHI: Tirumala town in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, is preparing for the grand celebration of Ratha Saptami at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple on Tuesday, with decorative lights and floral arrangements adorning the temple premises.

The celebrations will commence with Vahana Sevas, a traditional procession of deities on various vehicles, starting at 5 am.

Devotees have already begun gathering in large numbers at the temple galleries, despite the cold weather, to witness the religious processions and participate in the sacred rituals.

The festival, also known as "Surya Jayanti" or "Mini-Brahmotsavam," is dedicated to Lord Surya, the Sun God, and marks the sun's transition into the northern hemisphere. The celebration symbolizes energy, vitality, and spiritual illumination.

The highlight of the festival will be the day-long Vahanam processions, where Lord Venkateswara will be decorated and carried on different celestial vehicles, each holding spiritual significance.

The temple town has been transformed with electric lights and floral decorations, enhancing its grandeur for this special occasion. The celebrations are expected to draw a massive crowd of pilgrims from across the region.

The next Rathasapthami celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, 2025, featuring a series of divine rituals and grand vahanam processions throughout the day.

The festival's religious significance and elaborate celebrations have made it one of the most important events at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple, drawing devotees from various parts of the country.
