TIRUPATI: A middle aged woman was injured in a freak explosion near the

railway tracks

on Tuesday.

, who rushed to the site following the incident, launched an enquiry into the matter which created a flutter in the temple city on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to TOI, SP Ramesh Reddy said that the middle aged woman Sasikala who was moving along with her cattle near the railway tracks found an empty box with

residue and when she tried to move the empty box it exploded all of a sudden, leaving her grievously injured. Sasikala's right hand and right leg were severely damaged in the explosion.

Locals who heard the explosion rushed to the spot and informed the police. After reaching there the police shifted the victim to the local government hospital for treatment.

"During the course of our enquiry we found out that a welding works unit operating closeby which uses the Methyl Ethyl Keto Peroxide as a raw material for heat resistance had irresponsibly abandoned the empty box with the residue still inside near the railway tracks, which triggered the explosion. We have booked a case against the welding shop operator under the explosives Act as their negligence almost led to the death of a woman", added Tirupati SP Ramesh Reddy.

Tirupati SP A Ramesh Reddy appealed to all MSME units operating at Tirupati, Renigunta and nearby mandals to adhere to safety protocols when it comes to disposing off chemicals, used raw materials etc as otherwise they may endanger the lives of the public, which he said the police will not tolerate at all.
