TIRUPATI: Chittoor district police wing arrested two thieves and recovered 20 stolen bikes from the possession of the accused on Tuesday.

According to Chittoor DSP N Sudhakar Reddy, Chittoor I town CI P Narasimha Raju who received credible information about the movement of two notorious thieves involved in multiple bike theft cases reported at the district headquarters in the recent times, conducted vehicular checks near the Reddygunta junction in the town on Tuesday morning.

They spotted four persons on two bikes trying to turn their bikes around in a bid to escape the vehicular checks of the police. However, the alert cops managed to intercept the bikes but by then two among the four on the bike had escaped.

The two persons taken into custody by the police were identified as Siva Shankar and Vasanth, belonging to Vellore in Tamil Nadu. They confessed to the police that they were involved in multiple bike thefts at Chittoor.

Police recovered 20 two-wheelers including 12 high-end bikes from the possession of the accused.
