TIRUPATI: A teenage girl died while her father is missing after the car they were travelling in was swept away in an overflowing stream in
Chittoor
district late on Thursday.

Penumuru
police, Prathap from Muthirevula was returning to his house after attending a function along with his family when their car was swept away in the strong currents of an overflowing Kondayavaripalle Vagu in Penumuru mandal.
While the driver of the car managed to break open the windows of the vehicle and all the five passengers tried to move to safety, 15-year-old Sai Vineetha, who got off the car accidentally slipped into the stream.
Prathap, in his bid to save the life of his daughter, jumped into the stream. However, both were swept away by the strong current.
Meanwhile, local villagers, who rushed to the Kondayavaripalle Vagu after hearing the cries for help, rescued Prathap's wife Shyamala, Chengappa and driver Kiran.
Local police and rescue teams, who reached the Kodayavaripalle Vagu on Friday morning spotted and retrieved the body Sai Vineetha, while Prathap is still missing.
Chittoor MLA A Srinivasulu and other senior officials of the district administration too inspected the spot later on Friday.
