ALLAHABAD: At a time when politicians are projecting India as the future super power, one-third of its population is illiterate, said experts who assembled on the occasion of vocational literacy day observed under the aegis of Institute of Applied Science (IASC) on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shyam Lal Srivastava, advisor, IASC, said that situation is turning out to be worse in the case of scientific literacy as well as vocational literacy.
He said that it was high-time policy-makers get out of air-conditioned rooms and chalk out programme suited to the local needs.
Addressing the gathering, bio-technologist Krishna Mishra of IIIT-A said that science should reach out to the masses. Educating illiterate persons require innovative measures.
