ALLAHABAD: Apart from disrupting the smooth flow of traffic, the dug up roads in the city are also adding to the financial burden on citizens. Reason: people have to spend more on the maintenance of vehicles which need frequent service after plying on bad roads.
Garage owners say there has been an increase in number of customers coming for maintenance of vehicles.

While some of them complain their vehicles got damaged while driving on potholed roads, other claim their vehicles met with an accident on dug up roads.
Arvind Singh, a government employee, said, "The number of bad roads is rising in the city. And as a result, the maintenance cost of vehicles is also going up." He added that wear and tear charges come down hard on citizen's pockets.
Another government employee DK Singh said: "Bad roads have increased our expenses as vehicles either get technical snag or get dent while driving on potholed roads. Some commuters are also developing orthopedic problems due to driving on bumpy roads."
Manager at a garage, Dhirendra Singh, said: "The number of vehicles with dent coming for repair has gone up. While most of the four-wheeler drivers fail to maintain speed control of vehicles on potholed roads, the vehicles then catching various sorts of problems or receiving major dents on its body structures.
Vijay Tiwari, a resident of Naini, said: "By driving on bad shapes of roads, commuters apart from spending more on maintenance, have too developed backache problems. The condition of roads is bad in most of the city areas and has worsened due to poor upkeep of roads."

Ajay Tripathi , a resident of Salori opined that bad shapes of roads are putting at stake the lives of many. He further maintained, "The problem of potholes proves fatal for the riders of two wheelers and two wheelers frequently got slipped if not controled properly while passing through bad streets.
In areas like Sulemsrai, Mumfordganj, people need to be very cautious while driving as potholes prove dangerous. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of riders especially two wheelers to follow traffic rules.
Traffic cops too admitted that that violation of traffic rules and regulations continues unabated which is more serious when you are driving on bad shape of streets. They added that you should always drive slowly and take all precautionary measures.
