Uttar Pradesh: Uday Pratap Singh under house arrest in Kunda

PRAYAGRAJ: In a dramatic move, police placed Uday Pratap Singh, father of Kunda MLA and president of Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiyya, under house arrest at Bhadri House on Friday. He had been staging a sit-in at the office of SDM Kunda for past two days demanding removal of a mosque-shaped gate in Seikhpur Ashiq village.

Confirming the action, deputy SP (Kunda) Ajeet Kumar Singh told TOI that police and the local administration have placed Uday Pratap Singh under house arrest at Bhadri House. Adequate police forces have been deployed to maintain the order, he said.

Pointedly, joint teams of the district administration and police, who have been maintaining a close watch on the activities of Uday Pratap Singh and his supporters, chased him when he had gone to Bhadri House on Friday early morning. Taking the advantage of opportunity, the police placed him under house arrest. Uday Pratap was demanding removal of a mosque-shaped gate being installed for Muharram at Seikhpur Ashiq village in Kunda police station area of Pratapgarh district. He had raised objection on the temporary gate and was adamant to continue the dharna till the gate was removed. A banner, “Seikhpur gaon mai road ke aar paar masjid-numa gate ko prashashan dwara na hataye jane par dharna (dharna being held against the administration for not removing the mosque- shaped gate at Seikhpur village), was also installed at the dharna site. Notedly, Uday Pratap Singh had also posted a tweet four days back demanding Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to get the gate removed.
