PRAYAGRAJ: The Special Task Force (Prayagraj unit) on Wednesday claimed to have busted an interstate racket involved in liquor smuggling and arrested its two key operatives near Lucknow-Sultanpur highway and seized illegal liquor consignment worth Rs 70 lakh from them.
Police have also seized a truck involved in smuggling of illegal liquor, two mobile sets, one Aadhaar card and Rs 1,350 cash from their possession.
The arrested persons were identified as
Vikram Meghwal
and
Jakir Khan, residents of
Agar Malwa
in Madhya Pradesh.
Deputy SP (STF)
Navendu Kumar
told reporters, “The STF received a specific tip-off that an illegal consignment of liquor was being sent to Patna in Bihar from Haryana via Sultanpur-Lucknow highway.
A team of STF swung into action and intercepted the truck with fake registration number near Kamrauly, in district Amethi on Sultanpur-Lucknow highway. The illegal liquor consignment was hidden inside sacks of salt.”
The arrested persons told the police that a man, named as
Rajendra
, was involved in smuggling of liquor from Haryana to different states. They also told the police that liquor smugglers were using WhatsApp chat groups as communication mode to deliver the consignments and stay in touch.
