Prayagraj: Two sisters, natives of Badauli village in the Handia block of Prayagraj drowned in the river Ganga after they went to take a bath in the river on the day of Diwali (Thursday). The third sister, who also accompanied them, was also drowning but was rescued by local fishermen who were near the riverbank.
According to reports, three daughters of one Deshraj went to bathe in the river Ganga on the evening of Diwali. The three sisters were Shubhi Pandey (16), Nitya (10), and Ritika Pandey (9). While bathing, Shubhi and Nitya went into deep water and started drowning. Seeing the two sisters drowning, the third sister tried to save them, but she too started drowning. Meanwhile, the divers present there jumped in and managed to save Ritika. She was rushed to a nearby hospital. Shubhi and Nitya could not be saved. The death of the two daughters, especially on the day of the festival, shattered the family. The entire village mourned the death of the two adolescent girls.
Meanwhile, two persons who were bathing in the Ganga river on Friday evening were rescued by divers of the PAC deployed at the Sangam area of Prayagraj. According to reports, the two individuals, Ajay, aged around 35 years, and Manoj, aged around 38 years, went to bathe in the Ganga on Friday. The two are residents of Jayantipur in the Sulem Sarai locality of Prayagraj. On Friday, as they were bathing in the river when they suddenly started drowning. Fortunately, the divers of the flood relief team of the 42nd Battalion PAC were present there. As they spotted the two persons getting drowned, they jumped into the deep water and rescued both youths.
