ALLAHABAD: Unidentified thieves made away with cash, jewellery, laptop and other valuables worth Rs 5 lakh from a doctor’s residence in New Mumfordganj area under Colonelganj police station between July 12 and 14.
The incident, according to police, took place when the family members were not in the city.
According to the police the thieves entered the house after breaking the window and grill to ensure their entry into the house.
The preliminary police investigations claimed that the thieves were well acquainted with the internal design of the house and they had strike just before the arrival of the owner of the house was arriving on July 15.
Prof AK Mehrotra and wife Dr Ragini Mehrotra after returning from London were shocked to see the scattered household items inside the house and informed the police. The police team along with fingerprint experts and sniffer dog squad reached the spot and carried out investigations.
Prof Mehrotra told TOI: “We had deputed a person to sleep at our house as we had gone on a 15-days abroad trip. He added that all was well till July 11 and the theft might be executed between July 12 and 13 as we were returning back to city on July 15.” He was of the view that burglars had searched all parts of the house with an aim to get all valuables. He also maintained that the burglars had first broken the window pane of a window and then removed the grills to ensure their entry into the house. They had targeted the bedroom apprehending that they would be getting cash and other valuables from there. Colonelganj police said that investigations are underway and a case has been lodged in this connection.
