His family members told TOI that Farhan was picked up by Kareli police from outside their house on December 14 at around 8:30 PM without informing family members. The boy was thrashed inside the police jeep, and later taken to the Kareli Police station and beaten up till he fainted, alleged the family members. When they came to know about the incident, they rushed to the police station and tried to enquire about the matter. Station officer Vijay Pratap Singh allegedly misbehaved with the family members, and threatened them with dire consequences.
On being contacted, station officer Vijay Pratap Singh refuted the charges against Kareli police and said the issue was being raised by an ex-corporator of the area for vested interests. He, however, said the police had on that day chased a group of boys for making lewd comments on passing by girls. Before releasing the boy, alleged the boy's uncle Abbas Muzaffar, the station officer and other policemen at the Kareli police station made him write whatever they dictated and sign on blank sheets of papers.
The SSP has asked circle officer, Kotwali to investigate the matter and submit the report.
