‘Solar Gandhi’ advocates harnessing solar energy

Prayagraj: The drastic increase in temperature witnessed by the world is due to carbon emission and because of massive exploitation of fossil fuels. The situation is alarming and to bring positive change in climate, it is the need of the hour to go for solar energy as much as possible, opines Prof Chetan Singh Solanki, of IIT-Bombay, popularly known as Solar Man of India and Solar Gandhi, on Saturday.
He was addressing teaching faculty member and around 800 engineering students during a lecture programme on ‘Solar Energy’ organized at United Group of Institutions (UGI), Naini, Prayagraj. Prof Solanki was at UGI with his solar bus as part of his ‘Urja Swaraj Yatra’ aimed to spread awareness among people on the climate change and adoption of solar energy.
He said that no plantation drive can bring desire change in climate in the next few decades until we switch to solar energy 100%. According to him, 85% of the total energy which man uses comes from the fossil fuels including coal, crude oil and gas. But in this process massive exploitation of these natural resources have been done across the world leading to disastrous change in climate.
Speaking about his Yatra, the brand ambassador of solar energy for Madhya Pradesh government Prof Solanki said that the aim of ‘Urja Swaraj Yatra’ is to motivate people to use solar energy at large and for this purpose it has been decided to continue the journey across the nation till 2030.
