SISE designing book on great scientists and math wizards

Prayagraj: Be it the great mathematician and astronomer Aryabhata or the astronomer Varahamihira who authored the Pancha-Siddhantikaa, mathematician Bhaskara, who first explained zero, Srinivasa Ramanujan, C V Raman, Satyendra Nath Bose, or APJ Abdul Kalam. These great personalities of the country would be introduced to students enrolled in government-run primary schools across 75 districts of the state. Students will now get to study about these noted Indian scientists and mathematicians in a supplementary book being designed especially for students of classes 1 to5. The supplementary book is being designed by the State Institute of Science Education (SISE) in Allenganj, Prayagraj.The decision follows permission of state project director (Samagra Shiksha) and director general (School Education) Vijay Kiran Anand. SISE is preparaing to host a workshop of experts for designing this book. It is expected that the book will be circulated for being taught out of in schools from the next academic session of 2024-25, for study by the children, said SISE Prayagraj director Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi.Government primary school students are taught about great personalities but there is no separate book dedicated to outstanding scientists and mathematicians. Chapters on the great mathematician and astronomer Aryabhata who determined the value of n correct to four decimal place, astronomer Varahamihira who authored the Pancha-Siddhantikaa (Five Treatises)--a compendium of Greek, Egyptian, Roman, and Indian astronomy, the great mathematician Brahmagupta who was the first to provide the formula for the area of a cyclic quadrilateral and the mathematician Bhaskara, who first explained zero, as well as great scientists of ancient times, besides modern-day personalities like Srinivasa Ramanujan, C V Raman, Satyendra Nath Bose, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, etc would comprise the new book. It is, however, not decided yet whether the book will be given to all children along with other syllabus books free of cost or will be accessible to them for study in the school’s reading corner or library.
