SDMA mock drill exercises for Magh Mela from Dec 27

Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Disaster Management Authority, in collaboration with the Magh Mela administration and other stakeholders, on Tuesday shared dialogues for effective crowd management during the 44-day event, aiming to make it successful and ensuring preparedness for any unforeseen circumstances. Lieutenant General (Retd) Yogendra Dimri, vice-chairman of the UP Disaster Management Authority, said that the priority would be to establish coordination among all the agencies of the Mela Administration to implement the conclusions drawn from this event.
The discussions highlighted several important points regarding crowd management. At the conclusion of the programme, the vice-chairman emphasised the need to focus on the availability of holding areas and intersections for crowd management.He stressed the importance of considering crowd dynamics and risk factors, and understanding the weakest link, as we often understand our strengths but forget our limitations and vulnerabilities. After considering all these points, mock drills and exercises will be conducted to put these plans into action. Divisional commissioner Saumya Agarwal said that mock drills and exercises related to these issues will begin on Dec 27, testing preparations including fire safety and water security.
