ALLAHABAD: A free for all ensued outside the family court premises at the district collectorate on Monday afternoon when relatives of a girl assaulted advocate Ali Ahmed sparking off protest by district court lawyers.
Taking the assault as a slight upon prestige of lawyer fraternity, the lawyers thrashed the relatives and later handed over a written complaint to the Colonelganj police demanding immediate arrest of the guilty persons.

According to reports, Ali Ahmed, a district court advocate and a resident of Akbarpur in Kareli was appearing on behalf of his sister in connection with a case in the family court. The girl's in-laws who had also come for the hearing entered into a heated argument with Ahmed and within no time, some of the relatives pounced upon him.
On seeing the commotion, other lawyers immediately intervened and beat up the relatives creating a panic at the district court. By the time the police arrived at the scene, the relatives had escaped.
Bail granted: District judge Chandrabhan Srivastava on Monday granted interim bail to an attempted murder co-accused Mohammad Rafe. On November 18, a petty dispute over kite flying in Kareli resulted in the victim Osama being shot by the accused from a close range. Rafe, who surrendered in the court on Monday was granted interim bail by district judge S A Naseem.
