Allahabad: Peeved over scarcity of water in Mohtashimganj locality, residents protested at the office of Jal Sansthan on Saturday. Women carried empty buckets to point at the paucity of water. They also shouted slogans and handed over a memorandum highlighting their plight.
Speaking about their problem, resident Ishrat Ali said, "For the past two months, residents of Mohtashimganj, Badshahi Mandi, Shehrara Bagh and adjoining areas are facing acute shortage of water. The demand for water soars with the temperature. Yet, Jal Sansthan has failed us."
One of the women protestors said, "We are unable to perform household chores for want of water. The supply isn't regular and the pressure is too low." There is one hand pump in the area but that is not sufficient to cater to the needs of so many people.
Jal Sansthan officials assured the people that their water woes would be addressed soon.
