ALLAHABAD: The second edition of Science Conclave of Nobel Laureates being organised at the Indian Institute of Information technology, Allahabad(IIIT-A) from December 8 to 14 for the up gradation of scientific knowledge amongst youngsters of India owes its origin to the Lindau conclave, Germany which has made a distant impact on the knowledge power of basic sciences and research for the solutions of world problems and also to improve the quality of humanity all across the world.

Throwing light over the entire exercise the director, IIIT-A, Dr M D Tiwari said that undergraduate and postgraduate students, young faculty members, entrepreneurs, academic leaders and scientists from all over the country were participating in this year's conclave.
In this endeavour, co-operation of large number of Nobel Laureates on one hand and that of vice-chancellors of Indian universities, directors of IITs and IISERs and other institutions to nominate UG and PG students from pure and applied sciences, engineering and technology on the other is quite remarkable, as evident from the fact that nine Nobel Laureates have confirmed their participation in the conclave to interact with nearly 1600 students and young teachers whose nominations for the conclave was already received".
He added that it was in the wake of promoting the scientific temperament and invigorating the studies and researches of sciences after the World War II that successful efforts were made at Lindau, Germany where 95 meetings of Nobel Laureates were being regularly held by the Council for Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and Foundation Lindau Nobel Prize Winners Meetings at Lake Constance.
In every meeting, about 20-30 Nobel Laureates participate and some 500-700 students and young researchers come from all over the world to listen to the Laureates' lectures and to open informal setting interactions. The participation to the Lindau conclave from representatives of Universities & Academic Institutions is based on rigorous selection criteria provided by the Lindau Council. The meetings provide all participants with exceptional opportunities to take part in valuable scientific & personal contacts and interactions, irrespective of and beyond national & cultural boundaries.

For the past 50 years, the concept of bringing together Nobel Laureates and students/young scientists in a relaxed and informal atmosphere has remained the key denominator for the success of the meetings. These unique events also attract regularly many representatives of the media to Lindau; and their reports encourage a dialogue between science and society. All contribute to a general understanding of science, thereby attracting increasing demand & importance in the society & world at large.
Moreover, the Lindau meetings have been instrumental in creating networks of scientific co-operation among all participants worldwide and especially among the youth within their own countries. The Lindau Nobel Laureate meetings provide a globally recognised forum for exchange of knowledge between Nobel Laureates and young researchers, said Dr Tiwari.
