Prayagraj: Amid heavy police presence, a large number of protesters continued to lay siege to the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) headquarters for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
The candidates, who were camping at the site since Monday morning, are opposing the commission's resolution to hold the PCS (pre) and RO/ARO examinations across two days. Additionally, they contest the normalisation method implemented for evaluating answer sheets. Several student leaders of Samajwadi Chatra Sabha and National Student Union of India were also seen participating in the dharna. All attempts to defuse the situation by the commission and administration so far have proved to be futile. Late Monday night, UPPSC secretary, Ashok Kumar, along with district magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar, divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant and police commissioner Tarun Gauba met the protesters and tried to convince them that the changes in the exam format were made for their benefit. However, this didn't deter the protesters who stayed at the dharna site all night. On Tuesday, the DM again met the aspirants and tried to convince them, but they refused to end their protest. The protesters even defaced gate number 2 by writing ‘loot seva aayog' using spray paint. They pasted and hung posters against the chairman and commission, mentioning that the commission was against the aspirants.
State secretary of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Abhay Pratap Singh, said: "ABVP demands that the UPPSC resolve the concerns raised by candidates regarding the fair conduct of PCS and RO/ARO exams and increase the number of districts where the exams will be conducted."
