Police teams have been sent to Aligarh and Shahjahanpur to trace Dhirendra Kumar Saroj, an Independent candidate contesting Sirathu assembly bypoll.
Saroj had gone missing on Thursday night while he was sleeping outside his house in Majra Miya Ka Purwa at Sheetalpur village in Kokhraj.
Kokhraj police have found no clues regarding the incident. A case had be lodged under Section 364 of the IPC.
Investigations revealed that the after filing his nomination papers, Saroj had not gone out for canvassing for a single day.
Insiders told TOI that the Saroj had no money for canvassing. He had made a futile attempt to collect donation for canvassing but in vein. The family members were surprised over his decision to contest election as an Independent candidate.
After realizing that he had no money for campaigning, he preferred to stay at his house. On Thursday evening, Saroj had talked to his family members and went to sleep.
The family members claimed that they had made attempts to locate him and suspected his abduction. They denied enmity with anyone.
Sirathu assembly bypoll is scheduled to be held on September 13.
